Theodore
Racing was owned by hugely successfull businessman Theodore 'Teddy'
Yip, a Dutch national who had previously raced sports cars but found
greater success as a benefactor. He made several ventures into Formula
5000 and provided backing for many successfull F1 drivers such as
Alan Jones, Patrick Tambay & Dan Gurney.
In
1978 he commissioned successfull car designer Ron Tauranac to build
him an F1 car - the TR-1, however the venture was not a success
and after the British GP of 1978 Yip purchased a Wolf WR-1 chassis
and entered the German GP with Finnish driver Keke Rosberg at the
wheel giving the Fin his first taste of F1, he finished the race
a respectable 10th.
The
car was powered by the most successfull engine in F1 history - the
Ford Cosworth V8 with a 6 speed Hewland gearbox
The
model is based on the car entered into the 1978 German GP, as I
have the 1/12 scale Wolf to build in the future I wanted to make
this as different from that car as possible and the red and white
Theodore colour scheme, while simple, looks equally attractive.
A considerable amount of detail was added to both the cockpit and
engine bay, using many scratch built parts and etch pieces.
