The Alfa Romeo Racing C41 competed in the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship. Driven by Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi it would be Räikkönen's last F1 car in his illustrious career, Robert Kubica deputised for Räikkönen for two races when the Fin tested positive for Covid. The chassis was designed by Jan Monchaux, Luca Furbatto, Lucia Conconi, Alessandro Cinelli and Nicolas Hennel and was powered by a customer Ferrari powertrain. The car on the whole was generally uncompetitive with Räikkönen achieving the team's best finishes - coming home 8th twice during the season. The team finished 9th in the Constructors' Championship.
The model I chose to build is the final race for Räikkönen at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the now famous 'Dear Kimi, we will leave you alone now' graphic on the side of the car.
The model itself is a fully 3D printed kit and was incredibly well produced, especially the fit which required very little or even no 'fettling'. As recommended by a number of sources I decided to paint the car using Testor's colours Metallic Red and Pearl White which turned out to be a near perfect match for the kit's decals. The Clear coat was Zero Paints 2 part clear. The kit's decals were very good and very much on a par with Cartograph, in fact two sets were included with the kit and it also came with some excellent and accurate masks to help with the painting & masking process for the colour sceheme. I covered all approriate areas with Carbon Fibre decal as per the references I could find online and only needed to add some seat belt hardware and webbing which sadly didn't come with the kit. The steering wheel details were hand painted as the kit did not supply any decals for this either. I replaced the winglet adjusters on the front wing with scratch made parts and added some etched bolt heads and fasteners where appropriate on the bodywork as per reference photos. I also added some scratch made aerials and TV cameras for the front nose cone.
